I am returning to nursing and have an ICU interview next week. Any tips?

Update yourself on the NMC code. Make it absolutely clear you will work within your competence and that you are not afraid to ask for help.

You will probably be asked how you deal with stress. You may be asked about duty of cadour and the 6 C's of nursing.

ICU nursing gives you're chance to look after your patient holistically, not just using all the drugs and machines, but washing them, helping them communicate, dealing with relatives, helping them eat.

If you have a chance, look up ICU care bundles. They are research based protocols that all ICUs use.

I hope this helps.

Oh, and good luck, it's a great job.

Brilliant, thank you! I did a lot of work on the 6Cs and the code for my assignment and wrote about working within my competence in the application form. I'll look up the bundles today.

Great, you're well on track. You might to look up the sepsis 6 then if you've got time. Sepsis is a major killer in ICU and there are set ways to deal with it.

Also, if you're interested have a read up of ICU psychosis. It's very interesting and there's things you can do to try and minimise it.

Great! I'll have a dig around. I really appreciate it.
