Project Management qualifications

I'm thinking of a career change in the next few years. Currently in a management role at a national newspaper but work in an area related solely to print which doesn't exactly scream future career prospects. I've a lack of digital advertising experience which makes a sideways move difficult.

Thinking of getting a project management qualification to complement my skills and broaden my chances of a role elsewhere - ideally still within a media environment.

Anyone have any knowledge about project management qualifications? Going to start googling but any direct experience would be very welcome

Prince 2 is a common one. Sigma 6 or something is another. They are expensive though.

Prince 2 will help to open doors. You need to also try to get some additional PM experience to support it - perhaps within your existing company.

I did mine at the Knowledge Academy. Was about £1000 but I got that back (and more) in enhanced wages.

IS project managers are very much in demand and can command good day rates- but make sure you are temperamentally suited to the role! Are you highly methodical, organised and don't mind telling people what to do when? Are you technically minded and can apply this to a lot of things? I'd so go for it! At our place PMs always are in demand, Prince 2 seems to be the thing :-)

I'm definitely suited to it. My current role has a lot of similar skills. I manage team of 12 so well used to telling people what to do and performance management. We also negotiate with key stakeholders around the business - sometimes kicking asses and sometimes the nicely, nicely approach. Also deal with external clients and work to daily deadlines. It's just that what we do isn't well understood outside the industry so I think a qualification will pair nicely with my actual skills and experience and just make me a bit more employable.
