Bookkeeping again!

Has anyone done a distance learning bookkeeping course and then successfully made a living as a self employed bookkeeper. Any replies gratefully received. I really need to know whether or not my spending a £1000 on a course is a good investment.

Only if you have a plan to get work experience. Honesty can't imagine any online course would give you an adequate background to work independently producing accounts from incomplete records.

Buy a second-hand copy of Business Accounting by Frank Wood off Ebay (other second-hand booksellers are available), read it from cover to cover, and then check with your local college if they do basic computerised bookkeeping courses in Sage. That's the 'industry standard' software.

Once you've done all that, you probably need to actually work in a bookkeeping job for a bit to get the hang of actually putting into practice what you have learned.

Then you can decide which type of further training you might need.

Its like the difference between a plumber who has done a distance learning course about mending central heating

and a plumber who has done three years on the job mending central heating before setting up on his own.
