DS miserable at nursery since return from holiday

DH, DS (2.8) and I got back from holiday on Monday and were back at nursery / work on Tuesday. DS cried all day at nursery Tuesday, for the first hour or two yesterday, and was crying when DH left him this morning. This is very unlike him - he loves nursery normally. I feel so bad about "abandoning" him when he is so upset. Please tell me he will settle back into his normal routine soon.

Happens to us every holiday - more so from 2.5 to 3.5 years than afterwards. Sometimes took up to a week to acclimatize again, but it will all get better. I promise.

never really thought about it before but my ds now 4 was a nightmare at nursery for 2 years and on reflection it was quite probably due to the lack of continuity/holidays etc i spent literally hours having him pulled off me in tears and me in tears outside and watching from the window etc he did settle down each time but yes everytime we had a break it was back to square one. I have to say that although this happened when i did watch and he couldnt see me he was having a nice time and always came out in a good mood. I dreaded him changing to big school as i though it would all be the same nightmare again and yes he sobbed and i sobbed for 2 whole days and since then (apart from the odd day maybe 4 in total since sept) he has been fine, he loves it. So maybe its just a developmental thing that he will grow out of. Have you asked the nursery what they think ?
