Help about handing in my notice

So I have no contract and my employer is an ass! So I've decided to only give him one weeks notice!

I was going to hand in my notice on friday but my little one has an inset day on Friday so I'm thinking thinking I should hand in my notice on Thursday!

I think I won't have to work the weeks notice as in my line of work usually thy wouldn't want you to hang around incase you steal contacts or anything!

Also my boss isn't going to be in Thursday so how can I hand in my notice anyway?i can't do it over the phone can I?

Pop the letter on his desk, and send it in an email saying you have left a hard copy on his desk.

Do you think that is acceptable?

I feel like I need to speak to him about it! I need to be able to get a good reference for my new employer once I start!
