Disabled lady wants to do ironing from home to earn for her family.

Hi all my name is Claire. I am a mother of 2 beautiful but hard work girls lol. aged 7 and 11. I have been with my partner 13 years and he works so hard for his family. I am sadly classed as disabled as I have a life long illness. however this also means employers wont take a second look as I never know what kind of day I will have.
However I want to contribute to our income doing busy peoples ironing when my pain levels aren't too bad. I actually enjoy ironing! I stick my box set on and do what needs to be done!!
I did say £10 a basket as I don't drive the person would need to drop off and collect. But I have been warned that there could be some confusion over basket sizes so yesterday I brought myself luggage scales and will price things by weight I think.
I am a total beginner so would appreciate ANY advice or feedback!
I do a friends ironing and she is more than happy with the results! I just want to feel useful instead of useless!!

The boards are very fast moving with 1000's of posts a day and a post can easily slip off the active threads page, Just bump your thread by commenting on it to get it back to the active threads.

Great idea, but if I used your services I'd need to be able to rely on you having stuff ready when you say it will be. How many off days do you have?

there are plenty of ironing services around here, mostly advertise on local fb groups and the like so i assume it must be something people do pay for. good on you for wanting to set up and make a go of something. sounds like you could do with a bit of advice for small businesses to make sure you have everything sorted eg insurance, there should be somewhere local you can access that, perhaps ask at council or library if they have any info. then get onto fb, set up a business page and get advertising!

When we got our ironing done, we paid per item - £x per shirt, £x per pair of trousers, £x per sheet/tablecloth etc. I can't remember how much we paid but this one www.ironingservicestockton.co.uk/prices-ironing-stockton.html is close to me and shows their charges
We paid £1 extra for pick up on ours and I think there was a minimum order of £10.
As we only sent out shirts out to be ironed (I'm not too bothered by anything else) this worked well and seemed to be the standard way of charging. You may need to make sure people send hangers with shirts.

I didn't bump because I wasn't sure it was allowed. Thanks so much for clearing that up. I usually have a least a couple of hours in the day when my pain is manageable and if I'm struggling a bit my ironing board goes right down so I can sit and iron.

I have used ironing services in the past and having to drop off/pick up myself doesn't bother me as I actually find it more convenient. However, I always paid per item (around 50-60p) for clothes with a separate pricing structure for bed linen and larger items. I think I'd prefer to pay per item as I can calculate in advance how much it's going to cost.

I used to use an ironing service which charged by weight. The clothes came back on hangers which I sent back with the next order. They also came back wrapped in plastic. Things like tablecloths or duvet covers were folded and wrapped in plastic

I pay per item and am happy to drop off and collect.

I wouldn't use anyone that charged by weight or basket - have a clear 'per iten' price list then there's no quibbling.
