Question for part timers. 18 hours or so a week

After a year of looking and just when I thought it was a hopeless task, I've finally managed to find the holy grail - a decent part-time job that fits my background and pays ok. It's 18.5 hours a week and I've been told that they're flexible about how I work them.
My plan is for ds to go to nursery for 2 days (he already does) which would account for about 16 of those hours. I'm unsure about how to make up the rest. Working at home has been mooted but that would have to be in office hours and I can't see it being possible with a demanding toddler around. No family around to look after him.
I could put him in nursery for a morning but his nursery is near my new work and they are both miles from home, so it seems a lot of faff and expense for just a couple of hours.
Is anyone else in this situation of working more than 2 days but less than a full 3? How do you make it work for that half day and childcare?

Get a local childminder for a morning, preferably one close to home so you can drop off and collect when you get back.

I've been investigating this exact scenario and it;s the best solution I've found.

I've just gone job-share 18.5 hours, and was intending to work 3 days one week 2 days the next (every other wednesday) so that I didnt have to work a half day with all the faff of getting us both ready to go out for just a few hours.

Would this be an option for you? I think some nurseries wont entertain the every other wednesday thing and make you pay for the place every week. But childminders can be more flexible.

As it turns out I am going to have to work a half day and overlap with my jobshare partner otherwise I will never see her and we will need communication to make the job share work.

Thanks for these thoughts. The idea of doing three days one week and two the next is one I'd never heard of. Think I'd prefer to have the same arrangement in place each week though, as it'll be easier for ds and for colleagues. I think I'm going to try to find a local childminder for that half day and work it at home.
