Do I pursue this or let it go?

I returned from mat leave at the start of March and agreed with my manager (verbally & informally) that I would work compressed hours (9 days a fortnight).

Last Wednesday he told me that he had sought advice from HR about this type of flexible working and they said it was a flat out no. That the service provision of my role is 5 days a week. But my mat leave cover was PT and a colleague doing the same job as me is also PT (both have/had a whole day off every week). So this undermines that argument somewhat. My line manager is also nervous about me doing it because someone else has asked if they can do the same thing.

There have been no concerns about the standard of my work and I have made sure that if my day off falls on a very important meeting I come in for that.

So wwyd? Challenge their decision or let it go?!
