have got GP appointment - emotional overload,...find difficult to cope. I do not want to be signed off stress - - is there a reason to be signed off - emotional overload?

What is your concern particularly around the word stress? Does it have 'implications' at your work - I know some places are more accepting of it than others, shall we say. Talk to your GP, if the notion of having to say you are off with stress is adding to the stress, they may be able to find a way around that. Good luck.

I'd agree - in many workplaces, being signed off with stress is career limiting. Talk to your GP. Can she write it as gastric issues for example? Or another physical symptom of stress?

In Germany it's illegal to write the cause on a sick note, you just have the fact that you're unfit for work until x date. Much better system.
