Compressed hours?

Anyone doing full-time hrs over 4 days? How manageable is it with kids? Plan to compress after mat. leave, but slightly worried that it will be very stressful with two smallies - aged 10 mths and 5 years. Live 15 mins walk from work and can work at night from home leaving 5pm til 8pm free every evening with dds....experience or advice welcome. Thanks!

I'm doing compressed hours as a dad of 1yo and 4yo, but "only" contracted for 33 hrs over 4 days - nominally 8:30-5:30 with 45 mins lunch. I'm lucky I have a very flexible job (software engineer at large company) so can alter hours if kids are sick, make up time in evening if I need to. Wife is FT in a very demanding job so I need the flexibility.

It's great having Wednesdays off with the kids, though I definitely work more than the 33hrs (especially on Tuesday night trying to clear backlog so there are no problems with me my there next day) - probably about 38 on average. So if your "full time" is not really "full time and then some" it's probably fine.

I'm also in the fortunate position of a 15 min commute - think I would struggle doing those hours with any significant commuting on top.

Thanks very much brumeye - similar to my proposed set-up, so encouraging.
