quality of language, analysis, strategy all up for discussion. Blaming A levels, universities, your own work-place training all invited. Awarding of points out of 10 particularly enouraged. I had to spend all sodding day today reading something for publication that I seriously would give about 3/10. just. it was appalling. record sentence (yes I took to counting, it was that bad) was 63 words long. yep. SIXTY-THREE. and, in case you missed it, this is for EXTERNAL PUBLICATION.

miggy - funny you say that. ds1 always gets AAAAs in his report, yet his spelling and handwriting are TERRIBLE. When I try to correct him he doesn't take a lot of notice because his teachers don't give him the message that he should be making an effort to improve. He doesn't even copy headings correctly when they are written in front of him. I know he has a problem with this - he's getting some extra help with his spelling - but his subject teachers don't reiterate the message. Makes me CROSS.

Exactly right! Also have done some post grad teaching myself and was alarmed to find that my students were incapable of writing the most straightforward letters - I gave them a grammer test and almost all failed!

Here's another one...
I have just popped down to the Reprographics Dept at work (home counties Boro' Council) to fill in an order form for a print job. The form is headed 'Please be aware that incomplete forms will be returned, which could lead to delay's in job completion'.
Dear God...
