Extended maternity leave and redundancy

My employers don't have to give me back my exact same job, meaning more than likely a location change.

What happens if this doesn't suit? Are they obliged to make me redundant, or do I have to resign?

It depends if the location is 'within a reasonable distance' I believe - however they have to offer you a job with the same 'standing' and salary.

I'm not sure on the location thing, and it may also depend if there is a mobility clause within your contract - are you able to check? If so, and depending on the distance between the locations, they may very well be perfectly within their rights to say that your old job isn't now available, but we have this other one which is at the same level/salary, just in x place - I imagine this could be quite common in retail eg.

Yes that's exactly what it will be - however the location they will give me is further away in distance and time, and it's far smaller and less well performing.

My salary etc won't change.

So I'm guessing the onus would be on me to resign?
