Jobseek Allowance... can someone put it in short and simple English for me please?

O.k. had a quick look at the official website and tbh it's giving me a headache! Surprise... not.

The deal is: company I'm working for atm is very likely to close down in the very near future leaving me without a job. Have been looking around but so far haven't been able to find anything suitable, you know, right hours, right pay, right location etc. to make it feasible with childcare etc.

Will I be able to apply for jobseeker allowance and get payments straight away having been made redundant?

As far as I understand the garble on the site I'll have to go in for an interview with a case worker and go back in regular intervals?

Can they make me take a particular job and withold payment if I don't take it?

Probably lots more things I havent' even thought about so any plain language breakdown would be very nice

Good luck, MrsBigD!

that's good to know, I'd hate to be forced into a totally non-suitable job

THanks for the good luck Uwila

I think if its quite clear that you are looking they dont bother you really. They are after the real dole wellers.

Hi , a little word of warning when you say straight away be prepared for some time delay, I have only tried to claim this about three times when I have been in between jobs and never managed to , all the times I had a 4-6 week delay as first you have to ring a stupid telephone no. to get an appointment and forms are sent to you in the post , delay of about 10 days plus , then when I stated I had been made redundant they have to write to your former employer to verify your final pay, another delaying tactic, will you get paid more than 8k redundancy if so they won't give you anything, after much backwards and forwards all times I have found a job quicker than they have managed to pay me a penny .

curlysmum, I'm not surprised at all at that ... I had to fight them for my SMP years back!

But hey I will fill in all the forms required because it will make them have to do some work
