Repaying SMP

Hi,
I handed in my notice whilst on mat leave and repaid my OMP. Payroll messed up just about every single pay slip, including some months underpaying and just telling me they would sort it next time. My notice was for the 2nd Feb and I started a new job on the 3rd feb. However payroll paid me for Feb and paid child care vouchers for feb AND March!?

I contacted them on both occasions immediately. they have asked for the money back which is absolutely fine but I have a couple of issues, firstly they originally didn't deduct any of the pension tax etc i had paid on this. But I obviously cant get the childcare vouchers back, but more importantly they have said that the week for week 34 of my SMP is 30th Jan-5th Feb so I have to re pay a full week. I rang payroll role who were extremely rude, made me feel very stupid as though I should know this- I have spent hours searching on the internet and cant find any info. Does anyone have any experience of what I need to do?!
many thanks

They are wrong.

Show them this technical guidance to maternity benefits. See 3.11, "when SMP ends". It clearly states that SMP stops when you start work for your new employer. Not before.
