Confused about sick pay.

Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right place!

I have been off work for 7 weeks with a pregnancy related illness. I'm not really any better (awaiting more blood test results currently) but I am due back to work on Monday after two weeks Easter break (work in a school).

I feel I need to at least try and go back, but today is a bad day, so I'm seriously questioning how I'm going to manage going back.

I looked through my sickness policy yesterday, and it says the first 2 months are paid at full pay, next 2 months at half pay. My concern with this, is that once I move on to half pay, I will not be able to cope financially. My weekly wage is very low anyway, so half of that is LESS than what I would get if I was claiming statutory sick pay. I guess my question is this; am I able to request they don't pay me half pay so that I can instead claim SSP?

Hopefully this is just all hypothetical and I will be able to return to work, but I'm a bit worked up worrying about the worst case senario!

If you are entitled to SSP they are not allowed to pay you less, so in circumstances where their occupational enhanced sick pay works out less, they'll pay you SSP.
