My employer has changed our sickness reporting policy however in practice it seems to be unfair and possibly illegal.
My colleague worked her full day but was feeling unwell with that turned out to be a uti. She finished her shift at 1500 (correct finishing time so had worked her full day) then subsequently called in sick at 2100 to allow time for cover to be arranged as she wasn't going to be in for the rest of the week. On returning to work she has been marked sick for the first day and is now being asked to provide a sick line for that day as she has gone over her week of self certification.
The new sickness reporting requires you to report fit for duty which she duly did on the day she came back to work but she has again been marked sick and is now having pay docked for unauthorised absence! She can prove she worked these days but HR and Union are saying there's nothing they can do.
This week I was off ill for one day phoned in at 0515 I then phoned in at 23.45 to say I'd be fine or my next shift in 2days time as I was going into days off, I was on the phone for 22mins so now have been marked sick for 2days as my record wasn't updated the same day.
It's so frustrating that sickness scores are all wrong due to computer errors.
Is this correct? Can they really have such a rubbish system in place!?
