Just About Ready - Cleaning & Ironing

Hi All,

I hope everyone is well.

My Wife and I are about to start a little part time cleaning and ironing service. We were going to offer gardening & cleaning but I think my back wouldn't cope after some health issues I have had.

We decided to stick to the cleaning, with ironing included if you need it and also ironing by itself. We have seen what is on offer locally, and while it will only be the 2 of us doing it part-time to start with (I work 4 full days per week and my Wife is a stay at home Mum), what we can offer I think is very good and very well priced.

We have done plenty of research amongst local services and companies in both, and know roughly what we can charge for the cleaning, but the ironing has stumped us a little. There seems to be no rule of thumb with how to charge for ironing by itself. Some charge per kilo, others per item. We have a car so no issues with collection and delivery if needed, just unsure how to charge. My instinct is telling me to go per item, but what if you get some of the heavier shirts for example that take more time to iron?

If anyone does anything similar or knows anyone doing something similar then could they let me know please?

Thanks so much for your help.

Glad to hear you are getting there Geof.

I'd post in chat too to ask how people use their local service. More traffic there.

I haven't ever used such a service myself, but believe there are services locally that do 'a bag' which is a simple concept for both customer & you but I appreciate it could be a bit of an unknown. Or 5 shirts, as again it is simple.

If my cleaner were to iron I'd just expect her to do what she can in the alloted time.

Good luck!Wine
