If you aren't a "corporate" sort of person what do you do?

I just feel like I will literally die if I work in an office again.

I worked in a office for 5 years now couldnt think of returning. I retrained as a Family support worker, half a day in the office half out and about in the community x

What is it about "in an office" that you don't like?

Your post comes across a bit as "I'm such a special snowflake, I couldn't possibly put up with what you boring regular people deal with on a daily basis

If you focused in on what it is that you dislike you would sound more reasonable and we would be able to give you some more constructive advice.

Right now I do outreach work with local schools for my local indie book shop and I write.

Before this I worked in libraries and education (various roles.)

Classroom. But there is still admin and paperwork.

All offices are not the same. An office is just a place of work - it could be the Oval Office or the back office at the local chippy.

I used to work for a large corporation but now work for a small charity and do outreach work.

Some offices have a different vibe to others - architects eg (have worked for 2) are far more chilled out than eg law firm (current work) or other more corporate offices.

ChablisTyrant · 29/03/2015 17:50

I can't conform to large corporates. Too much bureaucracy and inflexibility. But now I work for a small company with just 10 of us. Still in an office but it's brilliant and fun. And we all work from home whenever we need to. As others have said, there are offices and there are offices...

OP, what is your current office situation and what is it about being in an office that you don't like?

BikeRunSki · 29/03/2015 18:21

I left the corporate rat race 10 years ago and joined a government agency. I work in an office (fairly laid back), building sites, in the field and at home. It's pretty perfect.

I've worked In aviation since leaving school 12 years ago. I was put off the office 9-5 job in my school work experience (longest 2 weeks of my life)
Although aviation is ever changing and no day is the same it does also get challenging and you get days from hell and the shifts can be exhausting. Shift work allows me more time with my ds however child care is a nightmare and am lucky I have family to assist.

Write. Shut away like Rapunzel in the tower.

avocadotoast · 16/04/2015 09:40

I work in an office, but it's not corporate. I work for a debt advice charity.

(I have worked in a more corporate place...never again. Shudder.)
