Change in Mat Policy, while Im on Mat leave!?!

Hi,
I have an interesting situation where I am currently on maternity leave, soon to return full time. Since being on leave, i have discovered the Maternity Policy for the company has changed, and new thing is that they want us to pay back the 6 months extra pay if we resign prior to 3 months after going back after maternity leave.

Anyone experienced this situation?

Being on 3m notice means i would have to work 6 months after going back to not be penalised maybe?

As the New Maternity Policy was issued while I am on Mat Leave - Does this apply to me?

Thanks :-)

Iirc they have to tell you at the outset if there are conditions to discretionary maternity pay.

I believe that a lot of employers do this. You have to be back for 3 months before resigning (if you intend to) or you have to pay back a lump of maternity pay.

I would check with HR as you are already on maternity leave. It may apply to everyone or to those who recently announce their pregnancy.

No there werent any conditions to pay it back at the onset. It would have even have been possible to give notice before coming back not to return, then not have to pay back a penny, which yes is unusual. Guess they figured it out and changed the policy.
Thanks so much for your advice! I will check with my HR contact at work to see if it affects me :-)

If you weren't notified of these terms before you received the extra pay, it doesn't apply to you.

Flowery, that's great to know. Do you have any financial adviser you would recommend? Thanks!!
