Accountant just quit! What do we do!

Just wondering if anyone knows what to do in this situation.

DH was an IT contractor for 10 months until last September when he started a regular job, he's been trying to get his accountant to shut down his limited company for the last couple of months. This was agreed last month but nothing was done, my DH rang up last week to chase (very politely) and today received an email saying the accountant doesn't want to act for him anymore with immediate effect. He's been offered a £300 refund but we've paid him £66 a month for a year so feel this isn't really enough plus what on earth do we do now!? We want to get some money out of the business bank account but have no idea how much we should be leaving in there to cover tax etc. Also we have no idea what returns etc are due... Can he just do this?

I cannot say whether your accountant can do this or not probably depends on the circumstances. I would suggest that you do immediately shop round for another accountant advising them of your situation. There may as you say be tax implications depending on the year end, trading within the year and closing of the company and its returns.
Find another accountant there are plenty out there. Check them out with their institute, if practicing they should have a practicing certificate.
