Too early to ask if I've been shortlisted?

I've applied for a student post with the NHS. It closed 8 days ago.
Is it too early to email and ask if I've been shortlisted?
It is, isn't it.
I'm so impatient.

2 weeks is usually what you'd allow after closing date - so not long to wait now.

If there are different departments involved it can be longer.
