Pay with Dict8

juju1507 · 09/03/2015 09:19

I have been working s/e with Dict8 for 3 years now and my payment by cheques are arriving later and later. My last cheque arrived 8 days after it was issued and I noticed they are now sending cheques second class. Does anyone else work for Dict8 on here and, if so, are you finding that your cheque is arriving much later than it used to? I have direct debits set up deliberately for the middle of the month in order that my cheque would have cleared in time but now I am worrying that even by 15th of each month the cheque will not have cleared. Sorry for the ramble but just curious if others have noticed this.

phew - just had an email from the post office - and he says they are staying open at present. Slight panic over.

IamVictoria · 23/03/2020 22:09

I contacted my bank to ask (NatWest) and this was their response:

Hello there, due to the current situation we have, the branches are closing and opening with temporary timings so each day could be different. Let us know closer to time and we can check for you.

IamVictoria · 23/03/2020 22:09

This was before Boris' announcement tonight though.

Chrissols · 24/03/2020 12:24

Has anybody had any tasks today? Just though there may be a few telephone tasks coming through, but not a single one. Just wondered if anyone else has managed any?

IamVictoria · 24/03/2020 13:15

I've typed four but also done two hours of proof reading, just logged back in and there are 14 on the list.

Chrissols · 24/03/2020 14:13

Well some specialities must be getting work then if there is proof reading. I expected it to be quiet but at the same time I thought, or was hoping, there might be a little to do.

carosel2 · 24/03/2020 14:16

IamVictoria - just out of interest how did you become a proof reader and noticed one of your earlier comments that you also type tasks too.
Does your work get proof read and if so do you get any feedback/ comments from others proof reading your work

IamVictoria · 24/03/2020 14:39

@carosel2 They contacted me and asked me to become a proof reader. I have been working full-time for them for a few years; I imagine all the proof readers have. I had to have other specialities added before they would let me do it, though, and that's probably why I have work to do - I have five specialities. I proof read those five and also a couple of others that I don't type that I had to learn all the drugs and terminology for.

I only really get "well done" emails. A lot of people must be proof reading at the moment because the huge number of letters waiting to be checked is going down quicker than usual and I've been getting said emails almost on a daily basis for the last few weeks.

carosel2 · 24/03/2020 14:57

Thank you, just a thought, wondered if there would be any proof reading for others that may like to apply for extra work, but if they have contacted you, then obviously it is up to DICT8 to offer that facility.

Chrissols · 24/03/2020 15:27

The way things are going there won't be any work to proof read

smiffypeabrain · 24/03/2020 16:09

Where I work in the NHS for a day a week, letters are still be outsourced and are currently about 1000 waiting for us to re-check (quality is not at all good ).

Trying to set up tel clincs is time consuming and the phone calls, mainly COVID-related are difficult. The letters have been left as the urgent referrals have been Emailed.

I would have thought the work with DICT8 would increase not decrease.

I too have had v little work, maybe £10-ish all day.

ElleBee56 · 25/03/2020 10:25

Going back to the issue of sending invoices and being paid by cheque, I was thinking last night (whilst trying to get to sleep but mithering about how on earth I'm going to pay rent and bills next month) how many people will be involved in handling said invoices and cheques? These will potentially pass through no less than 11 pairs of hands. Us, postal collection/sorting by Royal Mail, postal delivery, someone opening post, someone dealing with invoice, someone writing cheque, possibly someone else putting it into an envelope, collection from Dict8/sorting by RM, delivery to us, us again (handling an envelope and cheque that's been handled by who knows how many other people!), then for those who have to go to a bank or post office the staff there. Surely at this time when we're all trying to protect ourselves this is the wake up call needed for emailing invoices and paying by BACS. Maybe I'm overthinking this! Confused

Chrissols · 25/03/2020 10:35

I totally agree

Lucylizzy123 · 26/03/2020 09:21

Hi. Any thoughts on the Government's plans to reimburse self employed for loss of income. Would we be eligible do you think for loss of earnings? How would that work also if you were in receipt of any payments from the NHS, albeit low wage. I think we are all suffering a big loss of income at the moment, so I was just curious as to what people's thoughts are on this?

Chrissols · 26/03/2020 09:36

Like you, I get a small income from the NHS on an employed basis so have just assumed I would not qualify for self employed loss of earnings as still have an income, but would be happy to hear otherwise

smiffypeabrain · 26/03/2020 17:09

They are addressing self-employment on breaking news now.

I think letters are being sent out from HMRC.

Gally123 · 26/03/2020 18:07

From what I have just read I would be wary of the offer - a grant that is then taxed?

So you receive some money but then you have to pay tax on it as income.

And then the comment that self-employed people should not be paying less tax than other people - but we don't get sick pay or holiday pay - or the minimum wage sometimes FFS!

juju1507 · 27/03/2020 10:51

Just a thought. As non-essential workers are not supposed to be at work do I assume there will be no one at Dict8 to sort the invoices and get the cheques sent out? I might email them but whether I get a response is another matter entirely!

OP posts:
Chrissols · 27/03/2020 11:11

Never thought of that, but it is quite possible they are not at work. I would assume it is a job they can do from home though as it is electronic so fingers crossed (not that I've made any money this month!!)

Gally123 · 27/03/2020 11:20

I would hope that even if they are working from home someone has been designated to go in periodically to check the post etc. Although "essential workers" seems to be open to various interpretations I think paying people their wages is essential! Could be wrong though.

Lucylizzy123 · 27/03/2020 11:23

Another thought - if all DICT8 staff are working from home who will pick up their post and where will they deliver that to? It would seem difficult to run a pay roll at the end of the month from someone's home, the sheer numbers would make that impossible surely? How would you print off the cheques? If I was at home I would not want a sudden deluge of post coming into my house for processing. Hopefully they will have made some provisions for pay day. As you say, fingers crossed.

juju1507 · 27/03/2020 12:42

Just had a reply to my email to say that we will be paid as normal and to send invoices in the usual way (as someone mentioned above, they have systems in place). My earnings are well below £500 this month so at least I can pay it in via my IPhone banking app. No need to travel to the bank at least!

OP posts:
Chrissols · 27/03/2020 12:47

My earnings are below £200!! Cant seen to get any tasks at all. Really hoping it picks up soon.....

IamVictoria · 27/03/2020 13:39

That's a relief to hear, I can't handle having issues with being paid on top of everything else! Even if it does involve a trip to the bank!

smiffypeabrain · 27/03/2020 17:41

I was hoping we would be requested to Email our invoice along with bank details and it magically arrive in our accounts.

Silly me.
