I really dont know what to do im due back at work in four weeks. childcare in sorted and im all set to go physically not emotionally!! However weve been sorting tax credits and do not qualify for any help. BUT we cant afford to live and pay bills etc off his wage although its a decent wage. But i only earn minimum wage so going back to work part time my nursery fees would some months be higher than my wage so whats the point!

Can you get a job that's weekend or at night time so your husband can take care of the baby - that way there are no childcare costs

dicko1 · 05/03/2015 09:09

unfortunately hubby is a fireman so his shifts are unstable and varied days.

HI,

Have you checked if you are entitled to tax credits if your salary is zero? It sounds pointless you going back. Could you return later or is it worth looking at re-training in the future. I don't see the point in you going to work only to pay out all of your salary in childcare.
My DH works shifts (so do I, at times) so I completely understand why it s so hard to work around him. It would be bliss to have a husband who worked M-F 9-5!
Can you look at areas where you can cut back?

What's your position if you don't go back wrt to paying back any maternity pay.

I think it's very common for women to feel ready to go back on a practical level but not an emotional one.

I think i would have to pay a percentage back if i dont go back but think im decided on not doing. seems daft mite as well be off spending time with the baby then working for norhing. decides to sell the car for now as we have one each.
thanks x
