Sent my cv 10 days ago, how long do I give it before I chase?

The Friday before last I emailed my cv for a local part time job - email is what was requested in the ad. I haven't heard anything, not even an acknowledgement do you think I should send another email to chase it, or leave it. If I do send one, how to I chase without sounding like a total pain in the a....?

Suggest, "Just wanted to make sure you had recived it. Can you tell me what the timelines are for this job so that I don't have to hasstle you again"

Sometimes it can take ages to hear anything. I have just got an interview letter after two anmd a half weeks so don't give up hope. However no-one would mind if you rang to enquire I am sure...
