Hi, why cant i get a straight answer? our 1 to 1s for merit increase and promotion are due mid Mar to end Mar. When did you find out? Is it reasonable to ask to know now (I am a line manager so I know it will have been decided). I'm losing patience as a number of Snr colleagues and my colleagues all say I should have been promoted ages ago including my old boss and I Agree and have really been making noises about it and provided proof. I kept getting hints the head of dept that she was considering it this year (which means Apr to Oct) - but our relationship has soured a bit for one reason or another. So I'm wondering if its all changed. I have a new manager following an acquisition we made (long and sad story) and she said shed find out, but since I asked her outright, she hasn't really said one way or another. Said she had to check with HOD. I'm not sure if its cos they can't say right now, or whether its cos it's not good news.

It massively depends on your employer. Some have set times of the year when they deal with promotions, payrises, bonuses and so on. Others work on whether you reach given criteria. Others will be dependent on budget, even if you reach the criteria.

So you need to find out what your employer's policy is, and when you find out, if you haven't got it, then you need to ask what you will have to do get promoted.
