Would a wordpress website put you off?

Im just starting my new business and contemplating paying a monthly fee for a website, only a small amount, but still a fee, or strating with a Wordpress site.
The only difference i can see is that I wont have my business domain name as my website, it will be a Wordpress web address.
Would this put you off, would you think we wernt professional enough?
Any thoughts welcome.

You can map a WordPress site to your own domain.

I would think a vintagelace.wordpress.com address was a blog, not a business. So yes, not professional enough.

As MrsCakes says, you can use another domain on top of the WordPress shell, and that would be fine.

Thanks, I think your right, not professional enough.
I didnt realise you could put you own web address against, I'll look in to it.
Thanks again

Use your own domain name. They are really cheap.

We have our own domain and a wordpress site. Very professional I think Smile But I agree with pp, you need your own domain

On Wordpress - go to Upgrades, then My Domains and there is space to enter your primary domain. (I think there is an annual charge for this but it isn't much).

You will also need to change something at the Domain host end of things - but I can't remember what exactly.

It took me a couple of goes and a couple of days to get it all synched up, but it wasn't hard.

I would go for self hosted i.e. purchase own domain and install a wordpress blog on it wordpress.org, works like magic, you can use it as a site, blog or both, it's a very versatile platform. This way I know I am in control over what happens with my site, I call the shots and even have my own T's & C's etc.

Problem with a free wordpress.com hosted is you haven't got much control, besides the URL looks ugly. Besides, there is so much more you can do with a blog.

I can teach you how to create a simple website, from buying your domain, installing wordpress and much more, how to market it etc, feel free to get in touch somehow, I am still trying to figure out the best way to keep in touch without violating mumsnet terms.

I would really like to find out more about this can you private message me?

babybottombutter · 04/03/2015 21:04

You don't need to pay Wordpress. You just set a redirect from your domain to Wordpress.

You can make a website look spanking on Wordpress - Might be worth buying a slightly nicer template
