Career change

I've worked in nursing for 8 years, currently out in the community.
In return to work soon after maternity leave.
I really want a career change. Would love to set up my own business but not sure how realistic in the current climate this is.

Has anyone stepped away from a stable job to set up their own business?
My idea is for a shop local to me and the beach and sell local art work amongst other things.

Any advice and where to look for advice would be appreciated, thanks

Hi, your post caught my eye - I can relate to wanting a career change!

After having my twins, I reluctantly returned to my old role for 2 years. I longed to do something different but didn't know what or how. I had worked in the corporate world for years and was the bigger earner in our relationship, so I felt trapped financially and yet couldn't stand the thought of having to work there forever.

I did some online research into Career Coaching and then had a series of coaching sessions. My coach helped me hugely by enabling me to reflect on my values, interests, strengths, what motivates me, my ideal working day etc and I gained clarity on what I really wanted in both life and work. Ironically, when I first met her I said I was considering becoming a Career Coach myself (it fits with my qualifications & background) and last year I did leave my job and set up my own Career Coaching business - and I'm loving it! Yes it is risky stepping away from a stable job, so it is important to be clear about what you want, have a realistic plan and also support from your nearest & dearest.

Below is a blog I wrote about changing career and the things I learnt (hope it's ok to share this link?). greengrasscoaching.co.uk/finding-courage-change-career/#more-448

Hope this is helpful - message me if you'd like to chat/find out more.

Good luck :-)
