Starting up as a single mum - is it doable?

I am in the process of starting up my new business to work around my ds.
It's going to be an etsy based business to start with and then hopefully I will then grow from there.
I SO want it to work out. I've hired a mentor who is brilliant and giving me a structure to work towards.
But there is a nagging feeling in the back of my head telling me I am bonkers and taking a big risk. Got my head in the clouds etc. will it be financially feasible etc. get a proper job etc
especially as i am on my own.
has anyone had any success stories they can share? Thank you!

How old is your little one? I was on income support as my son is only 2, and when I went self employed my line parent advisor was brilliant. She put me forward for a grant which I don't have to pay back (hurrah!) subject to my business plan being approved - then they passed me over to the new business advisor who was also fabulous. The grant was a weekly some (£60 ish per week for first 12 weeks, then £33 per week for 12 weeks after that) to help ride you over while you build up your business.

I bought a franchise, and while it's bloody hard work (and certainly not the initial money maker I hoped it would be!) it's incredibly satisfying and I love the flexibility to work around my son.

Good luck!

Ooh thanks for that feedback sillymilly. My ds is 14 months and I will be applying for income support soon. Really pleased it worked out for you it must be amazing to have that flexibility.

yes it is! it is doable!

and I can even say more - it was much better for me that without my little angle. When I had no energy, I lookend at him and get all my strengh again :) I was starting just small distribution business (easyfiore.com/index.php?main_page=products_options&option=rodzaj&option_value=4&language=en), but still it was a challange for me!

I hope that you will get a proper feedback and will get a successful startup.

NEVER GIVE UP! :)
