is it worth signing on if you are the 16k threshold to get ni payments

Yes, you still have to sign on.

And if you have relevant NI contributions you will get contributory-JSA for 6 months regardless.

Beyond that, you will be expected to use savings to support yourself.

No idea, but it can't hurt to pop into the JobCentre on Monday with any records you might have of job ending/redundancy and make an appointment with an advisor.
