we are young family. 2 kids primary school. new job - possibility to put kids there ( subject to assessment, private school + discount). BUT it is 1.30 min drive... My DH works near home - 5 min walk...BUT he earns less that I earn. We rent at the moment so we not particularly tied in to the house...but we like the house we live at present and the community feel. I feel that if I calculate too much, think pros and cos, I will never do the leap.
the reasons to change the job, I am not happy at my present job and also the secondary schools in the area not great...How would you appraoch this dilemma please? I think without a leap/ taking risk I will never change, I am getting older and worried that the time is ticking for career move..Thank you

My immediate reaction is move in between. The main reason (for me anyway) for either moving house or not moving house would always be the children. If you would be considering moving the children from their school anyway, to one you (presumably) are happier with, and secondary schools where you are currently aren't good, and your DH currently has virtually no commute whatsoever, then for all those reasons I would be looking at moving somewhere you can both commute from, and ideally where local state secondary schools are good as well.

An hour and a half is a long drive, particularly if you'd be bringing the children as well. Is it definitely an hour and a half at that time in the morning? Speaking for where we live, the difference between how far we could get in an hour and a half during the day/weekend and how far we'd get at rush hour is huge, and a journey which takes 20-30 minutes at off-peak times could easily take an hour and a half at peak rush hour. If it's an hour and a half to this school during the day, you'll probably find it's just not doable from where you live as the journey would be 2 hrs plus at rush hour.

Agree with pp...move to somewhere in the middle. I wouldn't take the children on an hour and a half drive twice a day.

Depending on how long your children have left at primary and what next options are, I would be wary of putting them in a school if it is dependent on you working there. Presumably it is the discount that makes it a feasible option, and the fact you would be driving there anyway - what if in two years you changed job? (I work In a sector where 2 years is about average so might have a skewed view!)
Are there any ways to reduce travel time (train instead of car to avoid traffic?) how far is your DC's current journey to school? if it is a really dream job that you feel you have to grab, you will find a way to make it work Smile
