job interview and 11 weeks pregnant

hello everyone :) this is my first post on here!

as the title says, i'm 11 weeks pregnant and in the middle of changing jobs (as well as moving house/area). i can cope with the stress and am looking forward to finally settling down before baby arrives.

i'm a nursery supervisor with ambitions to progress to manager in time; i have an interview with a company who have said to me i shouldn't have any problems securing a job there, so i feel quite confident. obviously they don't know i'm pregnant yet though :)

i'd just like other people's experience of switching jobs. when did you tell your new employer? i wouldn't be starting until january and i know i need to say before my 15 weeks. if i get offered a job, should i say as soon as they offer it me, or should i wait and ring them up over december? were they supportive, and did you get support? i'm hoping that i'll be able to secure a place for my baby at the nursery so hopefully that will settle their minds that i will definitely be in it for the long term. any advice would be much appreciated :) thank you!

I was interviewed at 8 weeks, and eventually started at 26! I told my new employer after I'd signed and returned the contract, but there was a long long time to do that. I work in a very male-dominated environment, and they were all very supportive.

You only have to tell them by week 25 (15 weeks before due date) so there's no hurry. Bear in mind you won't get maternity pay so will have to apply for government Maternity Allowance assuming you meet the criteria for it.

Interviewed at 11 weeks, told my employers a month after I was offered the job (was due to start a few months later). They were very supportive.

I would think a Nursery should be particularly supportive, actually! Congratulations and good luck :-)

I am hoping they will be supportive, although my last nursery I told as soon as I found out and they were very unhelpful/unsupportive about it, which was quite upsetting. This is a much bigger company so hopefully they will be more professional :)

my interview is this afternoon- 2 hours on the train and a 45 minute walk so that's definitely my exercise done for the day! fingers crossed :)

I was 18w but had been made redundant and was desperate!

I told them when I was 20 weeks (after wearing lots of baggy, floaty tops!)

You have to do what is best for you. Legally employers can't discriminate, but as a rule, they don't employ imminently bumped people!

Although you say maternity pay is not paid, does that mean u can have maternity leave for a year and you still have your job to return to after?

I dont mind about not being paid i am wondering about what happens to the job whilst yoj have the baby x

Say the job was temporary I am guessing if they allow to work duration up to end of the contract.

If the job is permanent and you are on a probation period say 6 months what happens? I am confused please help.

You are entitled to six months maternity leave and then to return to your job, or 12 months and to return to an equivalent job, no matter how long you have been employed.

If you start a new job pregnant, you need to be thinking about maternity allowance (MA). You get this if you have worked for 26 weeks (any 26 weeks, not necessarily consecutively) in the ?? 66 weeks before the due date ??? Something like that. It's £140 ish a week for 9 months, so similar to SMP.

You can't be discriminated against because of being on maternity leave, so for most things like probation they would just stop the clock.

What are you budgeting for nursery place cost for your baby? My nursery didn't give much staff discount.
