Hey guys, I had twins in June and graduated in July.I'm a finance graduate, have just started looking for work.I was hoping to get into finance, my long term goal is to be a qualified accountant or tax specialist.I'm having a dilemma, I don't have any experience in finance and nearly all the jobs are asking for experience. My only other option is graduate schemes and they are proving to be very competitive also it doesn't help as I'm a mature graduate 30yrs.If anyone has any advice would so appreciate it.

I would recommend training with a medium sized firm, slightly less competitive than top 10 and should give you the experience to figure out if you prefer accounts / audit / tax.

If possible get full study support - the last thing you want is weekend or evening courses, you want day release.

what about doing agency/temp/contract work to gain experience.

Apply for graduate schemes. You will get great training and support and they will not discriminate because of your age. That's unlawful.

To give yourself the very best chance apply to more than one firm, look at regional offices and make sure you demonstrate why you would fit in with them by relating your skills and experience (both work and personal) to the role you are applying for and the culture and values of the organisation.

Look at BDO, Grant Thornton and Mazars.

Also regional firms like Hazelwoods.
