Bank Holidays

I am returning to work in July, working Mondays and Tuesdays. I know that in the past part-timers at my work who weren't ordinarily in on Mondays, never had Bank Holidays off, because they didn't normally work them anyway. There wasn't any pro-rata system in place. I was talking to someone in my doctor's surgery last week who said that there is a new EU directive relating to this issue, and that people who were ordinarily in on Bank Holidays, but obv. got the day off because offices closed, would have pro-rata rights to days off, but would then have to make up any additional days over and above that entitlement. I'm sorry if this isn't making sense - it didn't make much sense to me, although I have always felt it was rather unfair that someone only in on Mondays could have and additional 10 or weeks off because of Bank Holidays. Any info Mumsnetters. I'm confused and don't want to raise the issue with employers without more knowledge - am concerned if I appear workshy and as if deliberatley arranging to work on Mondays to benefit from the bank holidays.(Which of course I am!!!!!

Where I work, they pro-rate your bank holidays as well. You would add the 8 bank holidays to the standard 25 days holidays giving 33 in total. Someone working 2 days a week would get 2/5 times 33 or 13 days holiday. If a bank holiday fell on one of "your" days, then you had to use a days holiday.
