Mileage

Is there a set amount that an employer should give an employee for work related mileage- or is this at the company's discretion?

There is an amount set in the HMRC's fixed profit car scheme that has no tax implications for either side and currently it is 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles.
If you are paid less you can put some of your costs against tax, if you are paid more you have to pay taxon the portion above 45p er mile.

I earn below the tax threshold as very part time, so don't think I can off-set as there is nothing to offset it against. However my mileage is well below the 45p- so may need to negotiate on that.
