Team member blanking / ignoring me

I rejoined a team recently that I was part of a few years ago. At that time I was friendly with and worked closely with a certain colleague.
For some reason now he doesn't even register me in the room, sits elsewhere during breaks and doesn't speak to me or include me in anything unless its absolutely necessary.
I just don't know why he is doing this...is he afraid of the competition? Does he dislike me? It's as if he wants me out of the team. It's not that we don't know each other very well...we do!

I was just going to say the same thing about being the same status as you now so he feels he can't/shouldn't give you jobs to do. Rather its something you should figure out yourself.

Yes it's an odd situation where he is my equal yet more experienced and permanent and therefore more senior in one aspect.

Another thought. In the past I have seen him behave like this with the predecessors of my role...He subtly outdoes them and puts himself in a positive light, and them in a less positive light.
