Senior management rebranding of skills to change job.

I have been in finance for a long time, in a specific middle office area and have been a Head of Department for 9 years.

I want to move! It's time for a fresh challenge that is hopefully a step up and could even be to a new country or company.

However, my core weakness is selling myself and I can hardly approach my HR dept to help. I need rebranding and for my skills to be packaged in a way that helps achieve something new and more challenging. This seems to be more than a headhunter or recruitment agent's role, though I am happy to be corrected.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

As am employer I am aware that some recruitment agencies do 'refocus' CVs so that the candidate looks like a perfect fit for the job, so don't rule them out. Find one which handles overseas jobs, or at least jobs in companies with an international presence.

Get on linkedin and see how others describe themselves.

Make a list of your core responsibilities/skills- managing staff, handling budgets, procurement, writing bids etc then flesh them out a bit with numbers/information so it becomes:

Manage 30 staff including 5 junior managers
Oversee £2m budget, increasing revenues by 10% and reducing expenditure by 5% in last 2 years
Led successful bid for x funding which meant...

Concentrate on those skills and responsibilities that can be transferred across industries. If you're referring to specific qualifications you've obtained, group them together as showing your commitment to CPD, highlighting your motivation and determination. That's of course assuming you want to change industry?
