I am currently 9 weeks pg. I am unemployed at present due to a recent re-location. I have an interview next week and i am unsure if or when i am obliged to tell potential employer that i am pregnant... ? We suffered a miscarriage earlier this year so have decided to not tell anyone (no family or friends know) until we have the 12 week scan and are given the all clear.

I understand that i am unlikely to receive maternity pay but i have no idea what i can do in the meantime... i have always worked so sitting around at home for the next 7 months is my worst nightmare.

Any HR experts out there can help it would be most appreciated.

thanks

No you are not obliged to tell. I wouldn't tell. I have recruited hundreds of people nobody has ever told me they were pg at a early stages.

Good luck for the job and the pregnancy!

You might still be appointed in time to claim maternity pay anyway!

You legally don't have to tell them until you are 25 weeks pg, I wouldn't tell them.
I'm currently 21 wks pg and waiting to tell them (various complicated reasons), most people in my industry don't declare their pg until around 20 wks anyway.
Certainly don't tell them until you are offered a job, I would wait until you've been in and proved yourself a while.

I had a similar thread on here about a month ago where I go some great advice from knowledgeable MNers if you can find it

You don't have to tell them, only if your job involved health & safety issues like heavy lifting, lone working etc. Your best option is to go for the job, get it. Smile And deal with telling them about your pregnancy later. If you need anymore advice, I'd be happy to help.

Congratulations with your pregnancy. Good luck with it all. Smile
