all those questions are probably ones blokes can deal with better - they seem to be much better at blowing their own trumpets than women are.

Donbean · 27/09/2006 11:33

keep them coming...qualities is a good one thanks,

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

JessaJam · 27/09/2006 11:34

Depends on job... but...:

Who do you think will be the key stakeholders/people to involve in your work and how will you do this?

What do you think current/previous colleagues would say about you if asked?

Saturn74 · 27/09/2006 11:35

What are your weak points?
How do you deal with stress?
Describe your character.
If you were an animal, which animal would you be and why?(yes, really! )

anniediv · 27/09/2006 11:36

How do you deal with stress?

Explain what you understand to be 'teamwork'?

ShowOfHands · 27/09/2006 11:36

Can you detail a work situation to us where you think you worked to the very best of your capabilities?

In my most recent one I had 'how would your referee describe you'?

desperateSCOUSEwife · 27/09/2006 11:43

donbean have found some interview practise qs off my job advisor

here goes
apologies if they have been repeated

Why do you want to work for this company?

If offered a post how would you get here each day, could you guarrantee you will be here on time?

What interests you about this trade, why have you chosen to work in this field?

What do you know about the company and what we do?

What experience do you have, why do you think you can do this job?

Do you enjoy working as part of a team or prefer on your own?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

What are your weaknesses and how do you overcome them?

Why should I give you this job?

Why did you leave your last job?

Can you explain the gap in your employment?

Are there any questions you would like to ask me?

ProfYaffle · 27/09/2006 11:48

Look at the job description and come up with examples where you have done something (not necessarily job related) which demonstrates why you have this skill/competence. Then when asked questions about your previous experience come up with concrete examples you can talk about. Avoid hypothetical answers, eg, 'if I was in x situation then I would do y', instead say 'I was in that situation in my previous role, I handled it by doing ...'

My dp just bought this brilliant book about interviews, went for top job against twelve others and got it! He says book was invaluable. Hang on, will go and find it and give you the title x

rebeka27 · 27/09/2006 11:59

Okay, is aclled 'Brilliant Interview' (original title isn't it!), by Ros Jay. Dp works in communications, was really impressed with preparation in book, and said loads of the questions in the book came up at interview.

rebeka27 · 27/09/2006 12:00

called, even

snowleopard · 27/09/2006 12:03

Be ready for those "name a time when you..." questions - eg a time when you had to make a difficult decision, a time when you solved a problem at work, etc.

Donbean · 27/09/2006 12:06

thanks i will look out for that book.
Its promotion in my current role that i am applying for but with the focus on teaching.
I know i can do it but am terrible at interview.

Is there any thing that you could recommend that i could take to calm my nerves on the day? Are them calms any good?
