Want to drop some hours, how long do I have to wait before employer warrants this?

I work as a nurse and want to cut my hours from 37.5 to 30 per week. Legally, is there a time period within which my employer has to start this?

They need to agree it first and then presumably at that point you would determine a date when your new contract would come into force. Remember you don't have a legal right to change your hours only a legal right to request and have such a request seriously considered by your employer.

I think if you have a good reason for wanting to drop your hours of work, then they have to look into it. Your line of work should be ok to do this, so you should not get any grief from them.

I think it can take up to 3 months before they have to give you a decision on your written request. Mine only took a week, though it didnt affect any rotas/shifts for anyone else.

Thanks for all that everyone!

My boss has agreed it over the phone, she is very lovely! Just wondered if legally they then have to warrant it within a certain time although judging from your advice Gomez, prob not!

Now thinking about a complete career change!

Well Edie if she has agreed verbally why don't you chance your arm, confirm in writing, including your preferred start date and hope for the best!
