I started a thread a while ago about how I had decided to look for a new job, anyway after that I had a change of heart and since then I've been toying with the idea of reducing my hours so I only work a 4 day week.

I just ran it by my (new) boss off the record and he said he'd back me all the way. I don't even know if I can afford it yet but I'm SOOO excited!!! I can't even get my head straight to do all the calculations. I feel like crying I'm so happy.

I said I was worried about the category of my work if I went part time and he said it'd be fine and that I'd just plan my projects for 4 days instead of 5 as far as he was concerned there was no difference. I'm so happy I just had to delete about 3 paragraphs of sheer rambling. It was all so positive. I'm going to get my calculator out tonight and start trying to work it all out.

....pleeeease let me be able to afford it!!

...do you know what I've just realised - you guys are the first people I told! Maybe I should get out more ;o)

Fizog,
What fantastic news!
I too bit the bullet last week and asked if I could shorten my hours and have been told that I can.
Fingers crossed that financially it works out for you - don't tax credits increase too?

Congratulations Fizog, it's such a relief when you meet a reasonable boss who will allow you to function as a mother as well as a worker! Hope you can afford it - and who knows, the bloody tax credit site might be up and running again for you to check...

Thanks!!!

Just so excited, will reduce my nursery fees by a day so CTC will go down. I'll be earning 1/5th less but will still be considered a full time worker so might be entitled to WFTC - not sure until I actually do it though.

CSA finally sorted themselves out as well so what I loose from my salary will seem like less as will have CSA money from May.

Things couldn't get any better at the moment (aside from winning the lottery etc)

MeanBean - I know, having a reasonable boss make so much difference. He's very good and so flexible. Old boss was completely the opposite.
