Really want this job. Still no news

since I've submitted my application. Closing date was 12th August. Is it time to accept that I've not been shortlisted? There was nothing in the advert about not hearing by a certain date. It's for an FE college job if that makes any difference.

I'd give them a call and ask them when they're going to be finished shortlisting.

It won't make you look desperate - it's been 2 weeks, you need to know. Just tell them you're wondering if they've finished shortlisting yet as you're going to be away soon and don't want to miss the interview date if your shortlisted?

That's what I'd do, anyway.

Well, I've sent the email to HR. I can't use that excuse though since I mentioned in my application that I am on holiday this week but am available any other time. I hope that didn't work against me...
