Maternity Allowance NHS

Hi there,

Just a quick query, does a Nurse employed by the NHS (wales) get fully paid maternity allowance for the 6 months, or is it just statutory? Can someone clarify the times they get the full and reduced payments for me

I work for NHS, but its a while since I took my mat leave. I got six months paid and the option of another six months unpaid. I had to come back for 12 weeks or else pay them some money back.

Sorry, should have added that I think I got full pay for six weeks, then 90% up to six months. Then unpaid. Your HR dept should be able to tell you exactly. Different Trusts have tweaked the terms and conditions slightly differently, according to local policy and what has been agreed with staff side etc.

i work for the NHS in HR and am curently on maternity leave.

With our trust it all depends on how long you have worked for the nhs and if you will be returning to work. If you have 1 year or more service prior to 11 weeks before expected day of confinement and are returning to work you are entitled to 26 weeks paid maternity leave and 26 weeks unpaid which consists of 8 weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay plus statutory maternity pay (which equates to about 90% of your wage. BUT... this may change soon depending when you baby is due because of the new maternity act - has gone from 26 weeks to 39 weeks as of 1.04.07 please see attached link for more info.
