Notice Period in nhs

Hi,

I'm currently band 6 working in a hospital.
I have been offered a HV funded degree by another trust & I need to start Uni in 4-5 weeks (exact date tbc).

My contract says that I have to give 8 weeks notice in my current role, does anyone know how I stand on this?
I've spoken to someone in HR who said its to be agreed between my manager & I. I've looked on the policy & there's nothing about finishing early.
I don't have 2-3 annual leave to use either.

I'm a band 7 and I have to give 3 months. I have known this to be waived, but only for people moving to a different post in the same Trust, I don't know how you'd stand with wanting them to waive it for you to move to a different trust - there's nothing in it for them. Is there some way you can sell it to your manager - if your post will be easy to fill, or you agree to do some bank to make up the time or something? Hope you can work it out, it sounds like a great opportunity!

You need to speak to your manager, they can agree to let you go earlier

Your HR person is correct. If you want to be released early, ask your manager.

Just tell them you need to go earlier than your notice period because of the time scales left between your offer and start date. Take the opportunity.

I really want to do it & am going to.
I just don't want to leave on bad terms as I will want to do bank in the Uni holidays.

Worse case scenario go off sick. After you have registered for bank work. They won't have a problem taking you back for bank work -they need you more than you need them.

Oh fgs frames no wonder sickness is high in NHS with attitudes like that

What FabULouse said. If you can offer to help out in the crossover between you leaving and your notice period ending that would help

Pippin8 - congratulations , so jealous , HV is something I have always secretly wanted to do .
In one job I did managed to negotiate my notice period but I was moving within the same trust .
I have known friends have to do weekends and nights at their old job to make up the hours whilst already in their new job.
Is it possible for you to do a run of nights now to " bank " some hours ??
