Tomorrow I'm going back to work - after nearly 8 years of being a SAHM - starting to feel really nervous now

I'm going back to my old place of work, near on 8 years after I left to start my family. I don't know where the time has gone.
Had a morning computer training this morning but I'm going into the deep end tomorrow morning. I so hope I can remember it all.
Eight years is a long time to be away from the big working world.

It is,but it will be fab!
You'll love it,swishing off in the morning with only yourself to think of.
Any old mates still there??

Have a great day and tell us how you get on.

Tell you what Sparkler, here is something to think about.......................Mushrooms and your possible impending death.

Sherlock

I went in this morning for computer training so have kind of got a feel for leaving children and home behind. Did feel very strange.
The proper work starts tomorrow!

I'm a SAHM pondering what to do once child-focussed days are over (a long while to go yet!)

Just wanted to say good luck; would be interested to read how you got on. Sure it'll be weird for a while and then you'll click back into it.

xx

MG - I remember feeling like you. I had all these plans to learn something totally new. Was going to go back to college and everything. The years just passed me by and I didn't do any of that. Going straight back into what I left. Sigh!

what will you be going?

Sparkler1 · 18/09/2006 18:10

I'm going to work on the secretarial bank at our local hospital.

at least I've kept me typing up to speed by mumsnetting - I knew there was a reason why I spend too much time on here

good luck tomorrow.im planning on going back to work after christmas when my youngest child is at school full time.i wont be going back to the same employer though.its daunting but im sure you'll be fine.its been 6 years for me since i left work, 7 by the time i go back to work.you'll be great, ike anything it will take a little while to settle into a new routine but it'll be great and give you independance and something for yourself.good luck

Sparkler1 · 18/09/2006 21:35

Thanks mumandlovingit. Part of me is really excited about going back but another part of me wonders if I should have taken a few months of time at home. I maybe should have waited until after christmas - thing is the work came along quicker than expected so I took it on. It would have been quite nice to be at home, whilst both kids are at school. Could catch up on housework, watch a bit of daytime tv, do so homemade cooking, window shopping and all those sorts of things. The whole of my time has been taken up for 8 years and it might have bee a bit nice to have some of it just for me.
Ah well, I won't be grumbling when pay day comes along.

Would have been nice to have time at home but you'd still be there after Christmas feeling nervous about going back.

Probably best to just do it, and not think about it too much.

Happy speed typing!!

Hey, Sparkler1, how did it go?!

xx

Sparkler1 · 20/09/2006 22:11

Hi MG - It went fine thanks. Haven't had chance to get on here - been so tired when I get home.
Tuesday was great, everyone was really kind and welcoming. Old faces were really pleased to have me back. The job itself was okay but I was very very slow. Guess it's going to take a while to get back into it again. Today was better, picked up speed slightly but still not half as quick as I used to be. I was in all day today as well. Had a morning of work and then four hours of training this afternoon so I'm totally drained this evening.

Yeah, training's knackering. Glad it went OK.

Sparkler1 · 22/09/2006 15:56

That's my first week over and done with. I'm absolutely knackered!!!
Really enjoyed it though - I feel like a new woman. Good news as well as I've been offered another four hours work next week. Lovely. Bad news is I don't know what I'm going to do after this three weeks is up - hopefully some work will come along from somewhere.

Hi Sparkler glad it has gone well, why dont you hand your cv in at a temp agency now so if nothing else comes up where you work now you can chalk up some more work hours while deciding what to do or looking into other jobs. Good luck with it all.
