Just handed in my notice-but pregnant again

Does anyone have any advice as I am in a tangle and cant think straight..
I have just handed in my notice at work but over the weekend found out I am pregnant again, (which has come as a huge shock as dd1 is only 9 mnths old and we hadnt planned to try for baby 2 till she was about 4)
The new job will a)be very annoyed i'm pregnant when I go to them I guess, b)only give me statutory maternity pay as thats their policy-they are only a small charity.
We are still flat broke from having dd, as have only just returned to work...

Anyone know the legality of starting a new job pregnant.Or on rescinding notice?
Furthermore can anyone help me get my head round all this?!

What on earth to do?

firstly...congratulations!

secondly..it is against the law for your new job to be in any way annoyed that you are pregnant.

thirdly...do you really want your old job back? I am guessing that you had sensible reasons for giving it up; I dont know the legalities of rescinding your notice, but Idont think there is any guarantee they will have you back,

forthly(sp!) you can claim all kinds of different allowances/tax credits. Research your rights by going into a citizens advice beareau.

fifthly...lots of luck and it is fab news, your two kids will be close in age likeme and my sis and they will always have each other to go out drinking with.

this link gives you info on maternity leave/pay etc

If you get pg before starting a new job you won't get SMP as far as I know as you have to be employed 26 weeks before the 15th week before your due date

You would still be able to claim Maternity Allowance though
Not sure how the time off works - I think you can claim parental leave instead

Thanks both.
Its just very overwhelming and scary not knowing what will happen.
I will have a look at that link and do some sums and maybe all will be well. Will just have to kick my shopping habit for a bit I guess.
On the bright side if the baby is a girl I suppose we wont need to buy it many clothes and things as dd1's have only just now gone in the attic..
