Benefits after maternity pay

Hello,
Has anyone ever been in the situation where they are on maternity leave and their contract has ended? I have had my last maternity pay but don't have a job to go back to. I don't know what benefits to apply for as my doctor has told me not to rush back to work due illnesses that began in my pregnancy so I am not exactly seeking work and just find all this really baffling. Confused
Thank you to anyone who can help!

Depends - do you have a partner, if so what is their annual salary? Is the GP actually telling you you're not fit for work and would write you a sick note, or just telling you to take it easy?

If your doctor has told you you're not fit to work, you can claim ESA. You will need a note from him though

My partners salary is around £13,000 per year. I haven't approached the subject with him since he said don't rush back to work but I think he would be willing to write me a note if I needed one.
Do you claim ESA from the same place as Job Seekers Allowance because I have an interview at the job centre on Tuesday, i thought that if I applied for JSA and went to the interview I would be able to explain to them there and see if they could point me in the right direction- does this seem like a good tactic?
Thank you for your replies.

You will be eligible for tax credits, possibly ESA, free prescriptions, and healthy start vouchers.
