Teacher - can I give my 8 weeks notice during the summer holidays?

I've realised being at home and lonely is making me so depressed and want to get back to work ASAP (currently not going back until November) can I give notice on Monday? If so, how? I think the Head is going abroad for two weeks.

I've already changed my mind twice. Worried she has lost all respect for me already, but just not sure I'll cope with 3 more months at home.

What would you do? Job wise that is.

Do you mean that you are currently on maternity leave and want to go back to work sooner than you previously agreed?

noblegiraffe · 19/07/2014 11:18

School is closed and finding the right people to inform and them being able to inform your maternity cover will be very tricky. It also won't win you any friends, school has only just broken up, why didn't you inform them before? And wanting to go back two weeks into the new term will be quite unsettling for all involved.

Perhaps working on making an effort to get out and about might help? Join the NCT and do some voluntary work? I know I was nearly going out of my mind at this point of maternity leave so I sympathise, but messing school about won't win you any favours.

I know noblegiraffe, which is why I also chickened out of changing my mind last week, it already felt too late. I am doing lesson planning for November already to keep me sane! Have also asked for lots of keep in touch days and hope to help out with the school play which I normally direct. Am also trying to do other voluntary work but struggling to find anyone who wants me!

If you give notice now you will be able to leave at the end of the Autumn term, just before Christmas.

TheReluctantCountess · 23/07/2014 22:06

Oh hang on, you mean notice to go back to work?

DrownedGirl · 23/07/2014 22:13

Is it. Drv

DrownedGirl · 23/07/2014 22:14

Is it a secondary or primary? LA or academy?
