I have worked for the company for 18 months.
Last week the company went into administration but then was bought by a another company. It has now changed names and is part of the new company.
Today they made 6 people including me redundant. There was no warning of this and we weren't told the company was going to be sold. We were told to leave straight away but will be paid our notice period. I don't qualify for any redundancy pay. Some people have told me that the company have acted wrongly. Is this true at all?

Businesses can make you leave the building there and then and put you on Gardening Leave. Our place has been known to do it.

Legality wise of your whole situation im not sure but I know they can ask you to leave the building for the remainder of your notice period.

And im sorry to hear of your situation. It must have come as a massive shock!

I am not 100% certain, but I think that any employer can terminate the contract of any employee without reason if they have been employed less than two years. It certainly wouldn't be best practice to do so, but not illegal. I know this as I was speaking to a lawyer a month ago about what rights someone who was being investigated for a disciplinary had, and was told they had essentially no rights until they had been employed two years.

Thanks. I just wanted to check. They've been known to act in shady ways before. I just have to suck it up and find a new job. It's not nice very sad.
