Sick record when applying for new job

I wonder if you could give me some advice. My sick record over the last couple of years is pretty poor due to recurrent miscarriages. My employer has reassured me that this won't count against me currently, but would it be disclosed to a potential employer?

Most employers nowadays won't give out sickness details to a new employer in case discrimination is alleged but there is nothing to prevent the from disclosing to a new employer I'm afraid.

I'm on good terms with my new would-be boss and I hope he would talk to me about any reference - is it worth pre-empting this with him?

My company discloses sick leave and unpaid leave and surprisingly a lot of references also come back with those kind of details on.

I would only disclose if the root cause of the problem has been addressed so you can reassure them that you aren't going to be off for 4 weeks a year. I wouldn't like to employ somebody knowing you're going to have to manage persistent absence.

These should count as pregnancy related absences, so not part of your "normal" sick days. Speak to your employer to see what they have recorded them as.
I know I've read about this on the EHRC website, you should have a look there.

I would discuss with your boss. They can disclose (or not disclose) whatever they chose and so talking to your boss first is a good way of dealign with the potential problem before it arises.

The root cause has in some ways been solved - if my current pg does not work out then that's it, we're done with trying. My mental health can't cope with more than 4 in a row.

I think they'd be on dangerous ground if they didn't give you a job after a disclosure of pregnancy related absences - much easier all round if they don't bring it up. Best of luck with the pg - I had four in a row and then a bouncing boy, it can and does happen!
