Lunchtime support assistant Special needs school.

I have an interview this week for the above position. Having worked as a lunchtime supervisor in a mainstream primary, I have a good idea of the general role but I am worried as the interview is all morning an comprises a classroom participation assessment.
Can anyone suggest any key aspects I need to read up on and give me an idea of what to expect?
I have a child with SN needs myself but of course there is a wide spectrum of needs and difficulties in a school environment.

I've applied for loads of jobs and have had no luck.
I'm quite nervous as I really want this job.

If possible try and visit the school before the interview, if you haven't already. This way, during the tour you can also ask questions.

Our lsa's help out in the dining hall, they help to feed students that need help or sit with a group and monitor them/help them. Then help out with lunch time activities or with personal care. The rare times they are doing class activities, they sit in class and do whatever the teacher requires.

You should be asked about child protection. You might be asked about how you feel about personal care especially if working with teens. You might be asked about safe practices. You might be given different scenarios around lunch times.

I am just surprised that they want a full morning interview in the classroom. This is a first for me, only seen them for teachers and hlta's.

Just be lovely to the children in the classroom participation- which let's face it won't be hard!

Don't be afraid to help physically with hand over hand learning activities. If you see anyone who could engage better in the learning with a slight physical change go ahead and make it. Just be active!

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I was surprised at the length of the interview. Whoever rang me to arrange it seemed almost apologetic.
I'm just grateful for the chance of this job.
The school is very local to me so I will try and arrange an informal visit and read their policies regarding personal care, equal opportunities and health and safety.

I will be nervous but hope I can get across that I am kind, patient and willing to adapt to meet the needs of pupils in my care.
